Katrina Kaif is certainly going places. Riding high on the popularity of her item song Sheila Ki Jawani in her film Tees Mar Khan, she will now be doing another hot number in Karan Johar's production Agneepath.
Interestingly, this will be Kat's first "official" item song as she is not the leading lady of the film but is only doing a one-off number.
Initially there were reports that Kareena Kapoor had been approached to do the song, but it seemed unlikely she would be finalised; Bebo and Hrithik haven't worked together since their rumoured romance just before his wedding to Sussanne Roshan in 2000. Moreover, Katrina and Hrithik are now a hit pair post Zindagi Na Milegi Dobaara, so director Karan Malhotra and KJo felt she was the best choice for the song. KJo confirms, "Katrina is doing an item number in Agneepath. It's a big song and a pivotal part of the film. Karan (Malhotra) and I wanted a big star for the song with Hrithik and Sanju, and Katrina is perfect for it. She will not only add value to the song but also enhance the situation."
About Kareena being the first choice for the number, he says, "We had not announced any names prior to this. There were rumours going around but nothing was confirmed till now."
In the original film, Archana Puran Singh had done an item song called Ali Baba, which had become a rage back then. Needless to say, the new makers will go all out to ensure this one is a chartbuster too.
