DULHAN Katrina takes over from BODYGUARD Salman!
Yash Raj Films' frothy rom-com, MERE BROTHER KI DULHAN, embarked on an expected good start. The metros were higher at 80-90 percent and in some cases around 100 percent (Ahmadabad). The film is doing splendidly in Delhi-U.P. and East Punjab. The collections though were a bit lower at around 70-75 percent at mass oriented centers like C.P. Berar and CI .
The 25 crore Katrina Kaif, Imran Khan and Ali Zafar starrer is expected to sail through into the profit zone based on just its first weekend business from India and Overseas.
Meanwhile Salman Khan's Eid-Ganesh Chaturthi blockbuster, BODYGUARD, had an expected fall Tuesday onwards. After an astonishing 100 crore during the first seven days, the film added another 10-11 crore during the remaining three days of the week. But that comes as no surprise as the film had already reached out to most of its prospective viewers during the extended five day weekend itself, thanks to the huge release and the high number of shows.
And that is how box-office will behave in the days to come, where the first weekend (normal or extended) will decide the fate of most films, sounding a death knell for the redundant trending and attrition theory, especially as far as big budget, top star cast films are concerned.
