Lady Gaga and Katy Perry Have People Watching In-flight Safety Info Again

The move to liven up the in-flight announcement surfaced on YouTube Thursday, apparently recorded by a passenger on one of the Philippines-based airline’s flights. The video post may have started innocuously enough, but it quickly went viral, logging more than 5.1 million views during the past five days.

The video — which shows attendants performing to Lady Gaga’s Just Dance and Katy Perry’s California Gurls— was a online hit almost from the beginning, “chalking up one-and-a-half million hits in just over 36 hours,” according to the Daily Mail of London.
“Cebu Pacific has always been known as a fun airline,” Candice Iyog, the airline’s vice president for marketing and distribution, says in an interview with GMA News of the Philippines. “We were looking for something new and different, to show that flight safety doesn’t have to be boring.”
Iyog adds the airline even hired professional choreographers to help the attendants perfect their routine. Still, when informed about the popularity of the passenger’s video, Iyog says that went beyond anything that Cebu Pacific had expected.
“We knew that the performances would be well received, but we didn’t expect them to be this popular,” Iyog tells GMA News.
As for regulatory concerns, Cebu Pacific says the special dance version was performed only after a more standard announcement was given before takeoff.
Still, Iyog is quoted by London’s Telegraph as saying the safety dance is “an experiment that we hope to repeat and also a chance to showcase the talent of some of our cabin crew staff.”
Keep it up! We can’t wait to see who follows their lead or what songs they try to use next…
