Lewis Frances Barnes and Anna Elizabeth Brawley

Lewis Frances Barnes and Anna Elizabeth Brawley
Lewis Frances Barnes (Dob: 10/1/1851 in Davidson County, NC; Dod: 9/21/1934 in Davidson County, NC) married Annah Elizabeth Brawley, "Betty" Brawley, or "Bettie" Brawley (Dob: 12/17/1856 in Davidson County, NC; Dod: 3/2/1929 in Davidson County, NC) on 10/14/1875 in Davidson County, NC. They are both buried in the Barnes Cemetery next to Churchland Baptist Church, Hwy 150 in Davidson County, NC. They were strictly Lutheran. He was a farmer and worked as a blacksmith at the Spencer Yards. This was a railroad maintenance yard in Spencer and it was large. It was considered a great employer. He was a merchant in the Boone Township probably when he was helping his son Avery (see below). According to the censuses they both could read and write. They lived in the Tyro Township of Davidson County all their lives. Lewis and Betty Barnes had these children:

1) Avery Lawrence Barnes (dob: 7/9/1877 in Davidson County, NC; Dod: 11/11/1907 in Davidson County, NC; married Addie Mae Michaels on 1/28/1900 in Davidson County, NC) This is my direct ancestor. He was crippled from polio and had to use crutches to walk. He owned a General Store in Davidson County, NC that his father helped him with. Because of his disability, Lewis made sure Avery had a good education and sent him to Reed's School. He built Avery a cart so he could get around. His father helped him set up the store across the road from the Barnes Cemetery. But Avery died young of spinal meningitis leaving his wife and 3 children.

2) Leo Marcellis Barnes (Dob: 10/5/1897 in Davidson County, NC; Dod: 10/25/1929 in Davidson County, NC; married Cleo Heggie on 12/20/1924 in Davidson County, NC)
